The 2 stars are 1- view, 2- some food was tasty. Service was poor- slow or absent. Portions have shrunk yearly. Price of sushi has skyrocketed. Certain parts of food cooked improperly, which was odd given how some parts were done quite well. Sad that Makana is now off my list as this place has potential but so frequently disappoints.
Beautiful sunset views. Spectacular balcony where we ordered food and drinks. Drinks are expensive but what you expect. Food is shockingly mediocre to poor but quite pricy.
I ate here once a long time ago under different management. The setting was one of the most beautiful I ever experienced. Came back last week as a family of five and was not sure what to expect. It was a five-star experience all the way from the moment I called. The receptionist was most accommodating and I called back two hours before dinner to change the time and was assured they would hold the table for us. When we arrived I was relieved to find out the ambience was just as beautiful as I remembered and my adult children and wife were impressed. It took us three hours to eat our four-course dinner. The food was delicate and excellent; the scallops just might be the best I ever tasted. The wait staff was superb. They were attentive without intruding on us. Our waiter, Vaugh, was helpful with the menu and wine selection. The restaurant was busy but we were never rushed. It was not an inexpensive restaurant but compared to other places on the island it was an excellent value for what we experienced. Compared to other fine restaurants in major metropolitan areas our meal was very reasonable. Our children are talking about returning to stay at the hotel and eat here again.
Great location with awesome views, but forgettable food. The service was excellent.
Four of us had dinner here on Tuesday night. Not good. Special fish of the day was overcooked. Creamer potatoes that were part of the special dish were boiled. Period. Wedge salad was uninteresting. Crab cakes were bland. Sashimi was such a small portion it should not have even qualified as an appetizer portion. Cost was $64 for four drinks in the lounge. Dinner cost $261 with one bottle of wine. After tip, we walked out with a $460 bill. Not going back and recommend you skip this place.
