Delicious Thanksgiving dinner on Kauai. Friendly service and a beautiful view of the mountains and the ocean. Loved their crab and cauliflower bisque and the tasty juicy turkey with yummy gravy. Sides were solid: fried Brussels sprouts and white corn grits. Excellent wine list. We had Rombauer chardonnay and a great Sonoma pinot noir. They have a great selection of reds, even a Châteauneuf-du-Pape Beaucastel if you're willing to splurge. Had the salted caramel ice cream sundae for dessert. Yum. Highly-recommended !!
What an excellent way to ring in the New Year 2018. Our host Noah was exceptional and gave us the best service. The food was really really good and we went for the tasting menu which included wagyu beef, scallop to name a few. Paired with Taittinger champagne we ate for over 3 hours and enjoyed the best view in the house until the sun set and into the night. Bravo.
Maybe I'm biased because my new husband and I just barely stayed at the St. Regis for our honeymoon, but our two visits to Kauai Grill during our stay could not have been more perfect! They treated us like royalty; making sure we had a perfect picture at sunset, treating us to free drinks and desserts. Beyond their exceptional kindness, the food was AMAZING. We loved the lamb, the beef tenderloin and ribeye. (We are meat eaters and this place did NOT disappoint.) We love you, Kauai Grill and St. Regis!
The food is the thing. The octopus was nonpareil. The Sea Bass was actually cooked as if it was fish, delicately and just a the edge of done in contrast to the local propensity to overcook or garnish that which needs neither. Lovely lamb chops, although I would prefer two thicker chops than the three served. The one disappointment was the shrimp dumplings. When I mentioned it was merely satisfactory, David, having solicited what else I might have chosen, surprised us with the preferred item at no charge. Frankly, 5 stars demands same , but not everyone does so. Classy in both form and substance.
Kauai has so few fine dining options . . . unfortunately, this one is quite forgettable. Definitely in the bottom quintile of Jean-Georges' restaurants. Even the great view is compromised by the tinted windows.
I am not a fan of overpriced restaurants and, of course, Kauai Grill falls in that category, as do most eateries Kauai. That said, Jay and I dined there last night. We had a memorable and romantic dinning experience. The staff is unobtrusive and very courteous. Our server, David ,made every effort to accommodate and recognized at this end of the cost spectrum, it needs to be better than good. It was.
A very good restaurant and a winning opportunity to dress up a bit to enjoy a real out to diner experience in paradise. We will return.
