Over all, I was very disappointed and had higher expectations, given what I had read on their website. If you are very hungry, you may want to consider another restaurant option.
This is my favorite place to recommend on the island. The food is prepared with passion and an artistic flare. It's well worth the value. Just make sure to book well in advance.
As it was, my main entree consisted of a small bowl of vegetables that were bland. I thought for $60 that the main entree could have at least included some vegetarian protein, egg or fish. Additionally everyone else’s main meal consisted of only 1 small plain meatball on top of some bland breadfruit.
I have had the pleasure of dining with Justin and the Kauai Ono crew for a few years now, and it is fabulous! Living here on Kauai I usually cook for myself, simple, delicious and clean food. I love going out to Kauai Ono because of the casual vibes and spectacular, delicious and clean food. The set 5 courses are always a pleasure, so worth the effort in reserving your spot, I have to bide my time to get in there, and I can hardly wait to see what Justin is cooking up next. So Ono!!!
First of all, the taste of the food was good. However, the portions are small. It is advertised as five courses, but realistically it is more like a salad, 3 appetizers and a small dessert. Since I am a pescatarian/vegetarian, when everyone else got some pork sparerib on some cabbage salad, I only got the same cabbage salad with 2 yellow wax beans. Chef Justin could have done something a bit more creative for us vegetarians and pescatarians. For instance, why not include an egg dish or some sort of veggie burger created from local ingredients???
