Probably my favorite beach that we visited. It's a bit of a hassle to get to and parking is impossible from what I could tell (we were staying nearby and walked). This keeps a lot of people away which makes the beach really peaceful. I would recommend going early or late since it can be a tourist stop for kayaking groups in the middle of the day. Like most of Kauai the coral seems to be long dead but there are some nice fish. Overall nice rock structures but nothing really amazing snorkeling wish.
This small gem is hidden, like the name suggests. There is a very small public access parking next to the entrance of St. Regis with a narrow path that leads to the small but beautiful beach. The path is very steep and after rains, very slippery. There are railings and ropes to help you down and some arm strength is required to hold on, especially on the way down. Once you get down there, the sand is soft and the small beach (only a hundred yards across) is flanked by two rock outcroppings. It has beautiful trees that provide plenty of shade. The beach is steep into the water and swimming can be very rough, especially with the ocean current and big waves in the winter. Swimming is not advised so be very careful. No lifeguards are present. Because of its small parking lot, and the steep trail to get down, you may share the beach with a few other people, and that's it. This is a beautiful place to hang out and just sit on the beach, sun or shade, and relax for a while. No cell phone service (AT&T) at the beach.
Small and somewhat secluded. Parking lot is really small so be aware that there may not be parking when you go. The hike down to the beach is steep and can be muddy. I would recommend limiting the gear you bring with you and maybe try carrying back packs. We held a 2 year old and made it down but I wouldn't necessarily suggest that. The beach itself is absolutely gorgeous and was completely worth the effort getting down. There are spots to snorkel right off the beach. The view is beautiful. We had a great day at this beach.
Be warned, the hike down to the beach is tricky. It's steep and treacherous. The upper portion has some old rusty railings, then below has some old worn ropes tied between trees. If you're not comfortable hiking, your best bet may be to essentially walk backwards down while holding on to the ropes, like you're repelling down from a rock climb. Once past the upper sections, it's a simple walk down to the beach. Going back up is much easier for footing, though more tiring due to the climb. If it has just been raining, you may be better off going later to avoid slippery conditions.
That said, it's well worth the extra bit of effort too enjoy this great spot.
Absolutely must see, gorgeous beach. Soft sand, great snorkeling and huge shady trees means the beach has a bit of something for everyone. Great photo opportunities here as well from the rock mass on the far right.
My favorite beach on Kauai! Absolutely gorgeous.. but parking is limited. The hike down is a little steep. Be careful! It's so worth it though!
